I've been wanting to do this post for a while, 18 weeks to be exact, but haven't gotten around to it until now.
Step 1: Have baby. This can be done in any number of ways but usually the end result is a baby out of your tummy and into your arms.

Step 2: Shower and clean up after having said baby. Birth is, after all, messy.
Step 3: Eat at least three Michael Phelps' sized breakfasts all within 12 hours of giving birth...seriously (minus the coffee)

Step 4: Leave hospital and go home to comfy bed....ahhhhhh.
Step 5: Find a good book to read, mine was "The DaVinci Code"- a very good postpartum read.
Step 6: Let husband take care of toddler and do all the housework.
Step 7: Sleep & read & rest A LOT and don't feel guilty about it!
Step 8: Enjoy the plethora of meals brought in by many wonderful friends.
Step 9: [This is important enough to be #1] Take the full 3 ibuprofen that is recommended every 6 hours for those nasty post-labor cramps. Don't try to be tough and only take 2 ibuprofen. Trust me, the pain isn't worth it! Just take the full amount and know you won't be sore forever.
Step 10: Get a small outing every day. Playgrounds with a toddler for the family are great.

Step 11: Cry internally that we don't have 1 year paid work leave like some European countries when your husband has to return to work after only 1 1/2 weeks off. Realize that the laundry won't be piled up forever...
President Thomas S. Monson, our current Prophet said this last conference: "If you are still in the process of raising children, be aware that the tiny fingerprints that show up on almost every newly cleaned surface, the toys scattered about the house, the piles and piles of laundry to be tackled will disappear all too soon and that you will—to your surprise—miss them profoundly."
So true. So true. A baby is only a baby once.
